Resumen El poli (ácido lactico) (PLA) es un termoplástico biodegradable ampliamente utilizado en la fabricación de aditivos, principalmente en productos fabricados mediante impresión 3D. Sin embargo, el PLA es muy frágil y tiene baja resistencia al impacto; por lo tanto, las mejoras en este sentido son industrial y tecnológicamente importantes. Con el fin de desarrollar una metodología adecuada para un PLA de mayor rendimiento, este trabajo investigó los efectos del recocido térmico en las propiedades mecánicas (impacto, tracción, dureza de la Shore D), temperatura de desviación térmica (HDT), temperatura de ablandamiento de Vicat (TAV) y cristalinidad (difracción de rayos X) del PLA. Las muestras inyectadas fueron recocidos en horno a 70, 80, 90 y 100 oC. El recocido a 70 oC no fue efectivo, sin cambios significativos verificados. Por otro lado, el recocido a 80, 90 y 100 oC proporciono picos cristalinos en la DRX, lo que indica el desarrollo de la organización estructural. Los resultados expresivos se lograron a 90 oC para resistencia al impacto, HDT, VST, dureza Shore D y resistencia a la tracción, relacionados con PLA sin recocido. Los resultados presentados en este trabajo son de importancia científica y tecnológica, ya que las propiedades mecánicas y termomecánicas del PLA se han mejorado utilizando una metodología simple que puede producir productos de mayor rendimiento principalmente para la industria de impresión 3D de PLA.

Abstract Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) is widely used biodegradable thermoplastic in the additive manufacturing, mainly on manufactured products through 3D printing. However, PLA is highly fragile and presents low impact strength; hence improvements on this way are industrially and technologically important. Aiming to develop proper methodology for higher PLA performance, this work investigated the effects of thermal annealing on the mechanical properties (impact, tensile, Shore D hardness), heat deflection temperature (HDT), Vicat softening temperature (VST) and crystallinity (X-ray diffraction) of PLA. Injected specimens were annealed in greenhouses at 70, 80, 90 and 100 oC. Annealing at 70 oC was not effective, without verified significant changes. On the other hand, annealing at 80, 90 and 100 oC provided crystalline peaks in DRX, indicating development of structural organization. Expressive results were achieved, at 90 oC, for impact strength, HDT, VST, Shore D hardness and tensile strength, related to non-annealed PLA. Provided results in this work have scientific and technological importance, since the mechanical and thermomechanical properties of PLA were improved using a simple methodology which may render higher performance products mainly for the 3D printing industry of PLA.

Membranas de híbridos orgânico/inorgânico de poliamida 6 e argilomineral constituído de silicatos em camadas foram estudadas em comparação com o polímero puro. Uma argila sódica, como recebida da indústria, e outra organofilizada com os sais quaternários de amônio Dodigen e Cetremide foram utilizadas. Os sais tornam hidrofóbica a superfície da argila e favorecem sua incorporação na matriz polimérica no estado fundido. A partir dos nanocompósitos obtidos foram preparadas membranas por meio da técnica de imersão-precipitação, tendo como solvente o ácido fórmico e como método de produção a precipitação em um banho de água (não-solvente). O teor do ácido nas soluções poliméricas, dos híbridos e da poliamida 6 pura, foi variado para avaliar sua influência na morfologia e na permeabilidade das membranas produzidas. As membranas apresentaram morfologia assimétrica, constituída de uma pele filtrante e um suporte poroso. A presença da argila tratada com os diferentes sais alterou a formação dos poros, tanto na superfície como na seção transversal. As partículas de argila provavelmente atuaram como barreira ao fluxo. Observou-se ainda que o teor de ácido utilizado influenciou de forma significativa a estrutura assimétrica da membrana; quanto maior o teor de ácido maior a espessura da pele filtrante. O teor de ácido também levou à alteração do tamanho e da distribuição dos poros. As medidas de fluxo realizadas com os dois teores de ácido diferentes mostraram uma resposta em função da morfologia diferenciada obtida.

Organic/inorganic hybrid membranes of polyamide 6 and mineral clay containing layers of silicate were prepared and compared to those of the pure polymer. Use was made of an as-received sodium clay from industry and another organophilized with ammonium quaternary salts (Dodigen and Cetremide). The salts make the clays surface hydrophobic and improve their incorporation into the polymer matrix in the molten state. Membranes were prepared with these nanocomposites using the immersion-precipitation technique with formic acid as a solvent, and precipitation in a water bath as non-solvent. The acid concentration in the solution containing the polymer and the hybrids was varied to study its influence in morphology and permeability of the membranes. An asymmetric morphology consisting of a filter skin and a porous support was observed, with pores both on the surface and in the cross section being affected by the different salts. This asymmetric morphology was also affected significantly by the acid concentration, with thicker filter skins for higher concentrations. The acid concentration affected the pores size and their distribution. The clay particles probably acted as a barrier to the flow. The permeating flux for the two acid concentrations varied as a function of the distinct morphologies.

Neste trabalho, nanocompósitos obtidos a partir de blendas entre o poli (ácido lático) e o terpolímero (etileno/acrilato de metila/metacrilato de glicidila) foram confeccionados. A argila organofílica comercial Cloisite 20A foi utilizada como nanocarga. Interações entre a argila e o terpolímero foram investigadas por reometria de torque. As estruturas dos nanocompósitos foram determinadas por difração de raios X, sendo obtidos nanocompósitos intercalados e microcompósitos. A atuação da argila como agente compatibilizante foi evidenciada por fotomicrografias obtidas por microscopia eletrônica de varredura. As propriedades mecânicas das blendas mostraram-se dependentes tanto da morfologia como do grau de dispersão da argila.

Nanocomposites obtained from blends of poly (lactic acid) and an ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate (EMA-GMA) terpolymer were prepared. The commercial organoclay Cloisite 20A was used as nanocharge. Interactions between the clay and the terpolymer were investigated by torque rheometry, while the structure of the nanocomposites was determined by X-ray diffraction. The results revealed the formation of intercalated nanocomposites and microcomposites. The role of clay as a compatibilizing agent was evidenced by SEM micrographs. The mechanical properties proved to be dependent on both the morphology and the degree of dispersion of the clay.

O poli(ácido lático) é um polímero biodegradável proveniente de fontes renováveis com grande potencial para substituir polímeros não biodegradáveis provenientes do petróleo. Entretanto, seu uso em determinadas aplicações é restringido devido a sua elevada fragilidade e rigidez. Com o intuito de tornar o PLA mais tenaz, o terpolímero (etileno/acrilato de metila/metacrilato de glicidila) -EMA-GMA foi adicionado ao PLA em diferentes concentrações. A adição do EMA-GMA tornou o PLA mais estável durante o processamento. Por FTIR comprovou-se a existência de reação química entre os grupos terminais do PLA e grupos do EMA-GMA. A partir dos ensaios mecânicos observou-se uma resistência ao impacto três vezes superior à do PLA puro.

The Poly(lactic acid) is a biodegradable polymer from renewable sources with potential to replace non-biodegradable polymers derived from petroleum. However its use is restricted in certain applications due to its high brittleness and rigidity. In order to make the PLA more tenacious, the terpolymer (ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate) - EMA-GMA was added to PLA in different concentrations. The addition of EMA-GMA to PLA turned the blends more stable during processing. The FTIR data confirmed the chemical reaction between groups in PLA and the EMA-GMA. A three fold increase was observed in the impact strength compared to pure PLA.

In this work, Polylactide/Biopolyethylene blends were developed. Although some studies have been carried out on polylactide/polyethylene blends, none of them has used polyethylene synthesized with raw material obtained from natural sources. Due to the incompatibility between polylactide and polyethylene, E-GMA and EMA-GMA compatibilizers were used. These compatibilizers present glycidyl methacrylate groups in their structure, which may react with the functional end-groups of polylactide. To evaluate the properties, the blends were characterized by mechanical tests, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and melt flow index (MFI). The results indicated that the compatibilizers played an important role in the blends, interacting with the blends components, modifying the morphology and improving the mechanical properties.

Neste trabalho foram desenvolvidos nanocompósitos de polímero/argila a partir de blendas com matriz de PA6. Inicialmente foi avaliado por reometria de torque a reatividade dos copolímeros funcionais PEgAA, PEgMA e EG com a PA6 e a influência destes no sistema PA6/argila. Os ensaios de reometria de torque mostraram que o copolímero PEgAA foi o que apresentou maior reatividade com a PA6. Já nos sistemas de PA6/Argila, o copolímero EG foi o que apresentou a maior interação com o sistema PA6/argila corroborado pelo aumento do torque em função do tempo. Os nanocompósitos foram caracterizados por Difração de Raios-X (DRX), Calorimetria Exploratória Diferencial (DSC), propriedades mecânicas e Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV). Os resultados de DRX indicaram que o sistema PA6/CL20A apresentou estrutura intercalada enquanto que os sistemas PA6/EG/CL20A apresentaram estrutura parcialmente esfoliada. Os ensaios de DRX e DSC indicaram que no sistema PA6/EG/CL20A onde a argila foi pré-intercalada na PA6, a mesma ficou localizada na fase de PA6 enquanto que no sistema onde a argila foi pré-intercalada no copolímero EG a mesma ficou localizada na fase de EG. O sistema PA6/EG/CL20A onde a argila foi pré-intercalada na PA6 apresentou propriedades de módulo e resistência ao impacto balanceadas quando comparadas às da PA6. Os ensaios de MEV indicaram que a argila está bem dispersa nos sistemas PA6/CL20A e PA6/EG/CL20A.

In this work polymer/clay nanocomposites from blends with PA6 matrix were developed. Torque rheometry was used to evaluate the reactivity of different copolymers with PA6 and their influence on the PA6/clay system. The nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), mechanical properties and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Torque rheometry analysis showed that the PEgAA copolymer exhibited the highest reactivity with PA6 while the EG copolymer showed better interaction with the PA6/Clay system. XRD results indicated that PA6/CL20A system presented intercalated structure, while PA6/EG/CL20A systems presented a partially exfoliated structure. XRD and DSC analyses indicated that PA6/EG/CL20A system where the clay was pre-intercalated in PA6, the clay was located in the PA6 phase while in the system where the clay was pre-intercalated in the EG copolymer, the clay was located in the EG phase. The PA6/EG/CL20A system where the clay was pre-intercalated into PA6 presented balanced modulus and impact strength properties when compared to PA6. SEM tests showed that the clay is well dispersed in the PA6/CL20A and PA6/EG/CL20A systems.

As ferritas geralmente são absorvedoras de radiação eletromagnética e apresentam a versatilidade de poderem ser manufaturadas com geometrias diferentes, e usadas na forma de ferritas policristalinas (corpo sinterizado) ou de compósitos de ferrita (adição de pó em matriz apropriada). A poliamida 6, por sua vez, pertence a uma classe de polímeros atraentes para aplicações em engenharia devido à combinação de propriedades como: estabilidade dimensional, boa resistência ao impacto sem entalhe e excelente resistência química. O objetivo deste trabalho foi sintetizar pós de ferrita NiFe2O4, e avaliar a adição destes em concentrações de 10, 30, 50 e 60% em massa a uma matriz polimérica de poliamida 6 usando um misturador da Haake Blücher, para obter compósitos de poliamida 6/NiFe2O4. Os pós e os compósitos foram caracterizados por difração de raios X (DRX) e microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Os difratogramas de raios X mostraram picos característicos da poliamida 6 e da ferrita. Por MEV foi observada a formação de aglomerados grandes para a concentração de 60% e, uma grande quantidade de poros. Para a concentração de 10%, as partículas ficaram mais dispersas, com menos aglomerados e menos poros no compósito.

Ferrites normally absorb electromagnetic radiation, being versatile in that they can be manufactured in different geometries and used as polycrystalline ferrites (sintered body) or composites of ferrite (with addition of the powder to an appropriate matrix). On the other hand, nylon 6 is an attractive polymer for engineering applications due to the combination of properties such as dimensional stability, good impact strength without notch indentation and excellent chemical resistance. The aim of this paper was to synthesize ferrite (NiFe2O4) powders and to evaluate their addition in concentrations of 10, 30, 50 and 60 wt% into a nylon 6 polymer matrix using a Haake Blücher mixer. The powders and the composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The X-ray diffractograms showed characteristic peaks of nylon 6 and ferrite. With SEM, large clusters were observed for the concentration of 60%, with a large amount of pores. For the 10% concentration, the particles became more dispersed with less clusters and less pores in the composite.

Nanocompósitos de poliamida 6/argila organofílica foram preparados pelo método de intercalação por fusão. A argila foi tratada com o sal quaternário de amônio (Cetremide) visando-se à obtenção da argila organofílica (OMMT). Esta foi caracterizada por fluorescência de raio X (FRX), Espectroscopia no Infravermelho (FTIR) e Difração de Raio X (DRX). Os resultados dessas análises evidenciaram incorporação do sal entre as camadas da argila, tornando-a organofílica. Os nanocompósitos foram obtidos em extrusora de rosca dupla corrotacional, com 3% em peso de argila, e estes foram posteriormente injetados. A caracterização dos nanocompósitos por DRX mostrou uma estrutura esfoliada e/ou parcialmente esfoliada. As análises por Calorimetria Exploratória Diferencial (DSC) foram realizadas nas regiões da pele (superfície) e do núcleo (centro) dos corpos de prova e, mostraram as fases cristalinas α e γ na pele e apenas a fase α no núcleo e que o grau de cristalinidade na pele foi menor do que no núcleo.

Polyamide 6/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared using the melt intercalation technique. The clay was treated with a quaternary ammonium salt (Cetremide) to obtain the organoclay (OMMT), which was characterized with X ray fluorescence (XRF), Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X ray diffraction (XRD). The results of these analyses showed the incorporation of the salt in the clay structure, confirming the organophilization. The nanocomposites were obtained in a co-rotational twin screw extruder with 3 wt. (%) of clay, and then the pellets were injection molded. The characterization by XRD of the nanocomposites showed an exfoliated and/or partially exfoliated structure. The analysis by DSC were made in the skin and core regions of the samples, showing the α and γ-crystalline forms in the skin and only the α-form in the core region. The degree of crystallinity in the skin was lower than in the core.

Membranas poliméricas foram produzidas a partir de nanocompósitos de poliamida 6 e argila constituída de silicatos em camadas, utilizando a técnica de imersão-precipitação. A argila foi modificada organicamente com os sais quaternários de amônio, Dodigen e Cetremide. Foram obtidos nanocompósitos de poliamida 6 com argila sem tratamento (MMT) e com argila tratada (OMMT). Os nanocompósitos obtidos foram avaliados por DRX e MET, apresentando estrutura com predominância de lamelas de argila esfoliadas na matriz polimérica. As membranas produzidas pelo método de inversão de fases foram caracterizadas por DRX e MEV. A difração de raios X das membranas confirmou os resultados para os nanocompósitos anteriormente preparados. A superfície da matriz observada por MEV apresentou poros irregulares. Já para as membranas com os nanocompósitos observou-se maior quantidade e melhor distribuição dos poros, indicando que a presença da argila alterou a morfologia da membrana. As fotomicrografias das seções transversais dessas membranas mostraram uma estrutura morfológica assimétrica, constituída de uma pele, onde os poros são muito pequenos ou inexistentes, e uma camada porosa com poros de tamanho e distribuição uniformes.

Polymeric membranes were produced from nylon 6 nanocomposites and a clay using the immersion-precipitation technique. The clay was organically modified by using a quaternary ammonium salt, Dodigen. Nanocomposites were obtained from nylon 6 with untreated clay (MMT) and treated clay (OMMT). The nanocomposites were studied by XRD and TEM. The morphological structure consisted of an exfoliated and partially exfoliated clay layers in the polymeric matrix. The membranes were produced by phase inversion method and characterized by XRD and SEM. The X-ray diffraction of the membranes confirmed the results for the nanocomposites. The SEM image of the membrane top surface showed irregular pores. As for the membranes with the nanocomposites, a larger number of better distributed pores were observed, indicating that the presence of the clay altered the membrane morphology. The cross section SEM image showed an asymmetric morphology structure, comprising two layers, namely a skin with small and closed pores, and a porous layer with large, uniformly distributed pores.

Neste trabalho foram investigadas as características de amostras de pó de polietileno de ultra alto peso molecular (PEUAPM), tais como porosidade, morfologia, tamanho médio e distribuição de partícula, que são importantes na moldagem por compressão a frio. Também foi avaliada a influência dessas características na densidade a verde de pré-formas. As amostras dos pós foram caracterizadas por calorimetria diferencial de varredura (DSC), análise granulométrica, absorção de óleo, área superficial, porosimetria de mercúrio, fluidez do pó, densidade de compactação, densidade aparente e microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Através das técnicas de caracterização estudadas ficou evidenciado que as características da partícula citadas anteriormente, assim como o parâmetro de densificação (DP), que é função direta da porosidade interparticular, favorecem a densidade a verde relativa (DVR) e consequentemente a tensão de resistência à flexão (TRF).

In this paper an investigation was made of the characteristics of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) powder samples, including porosity, particles average size, size distribution and morphology, which are important in cold compression molding. The influence of these characteristics on the green density of molded pre-shapes was also investigated. The UHMWPE powder samples were characterized by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), granulometric analysis, oil absorption, surface area, mercury porosity, density compaction, apparent density and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The characterization techniques used demonstrate that the UHMWPE particles characteristics cited above as well as the densification parameter (DP), which is a direct function of the interparticles porosity, affect the relative green density (RGD) and hence, the flexural tensile strength (FTS).

Neste trabalho investigamos o efeito de diferentes compatibilizantes na reometria de torque, propriedades mecânicas e morfologia das blendas de PA6/PEAD. As blendas foram preparadas em uma extrusora dupla-rosca contra-rotativa com filetes totalmente interpenetrantes, a 240 °C em todas as zonas e velocidade de 50 rpm. A composição das blendas foi de 80/20 (% em peso) para as blendas binárias de PA6/PEAD e de 80/10/10 (% em peso) para as blendas ternárias de PA6/Compatibilizante/PEAD. Os resultados mostraram que houve um aumento no torque das blendas de PA6/PEAD com a adição dos compatibilizantes. O compatibilizante PEgAA foi o que apresentou maior reatividade com a PA6. Entretanto, foi observada uma redução no torque devido à degradação. Os resultados de propriedades mecânicas mostraram que houve aumento considerável na resistência ao impacto das blendas de PA6/PEAD quando os compatibilizantes foram adicionados. Estes resultados foram corroborados pelos dados de deformação na ruptura sob tração. Os resultados de MEV mostraram que a adição dos compatibilizantes às blendas de PA6/PEAD reduziu significativamente o tamanho médio das partículas de PEAD, e melhorou a adesão entre as fases desses polímeros, resultando principalmente, em um aumento da resistência ao impacto.

In this paper, an investigation was made of the effect of different compatibilizers on the torque rheometry, mechanical properties, and morphology of Polyamide 6 (PA6)/High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) blends. The compatibilizers used were PEgAA, PEgMA, and EMA-GMA. The blends were prepared in a counter-rotating intermeshing twin screw extruder, at 240 °C in all zones, and screw speed of 50 rpm. The composition of the blends was 80/20 (wt%) for PA6/HDPE binary blend and 80/10/10 (wt%) for PA6/Compatibilizer/HDPE blends. The blends were characterized by torque rheometry, mechanical properties, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Torque rheometry analysis has shown that there was an increase in the torque of PA6/HDPE blend when the compatibilizers were added. PEgAA compatibilizer was more reactive with PA6 than the other compatibilizers. However, the torque decreased due to degradation. There was a substantial increase in impact strength of PA6/HDPE blend when the compatibilizers were added. These results were corroborated by the strain at break data. SEM results indicated that the addition of compatibilizers to PA6/PE blend has considerably decreased the HDPE average particles size and improved the adhesion between PA6 and HDPE phases, resulting in an increase in impact strength.

Nanocompósitos de polietileno de alta densidade/argila bentonita nacional foram preparados por intercalação por fusão. A influência da adição da argila sem tratamento e da argila tratada com o sal quaternário de amônio Cetremide e do polietileno graftizado com anidrido maléico (PE-g-MA) como agente compatibilizante foi avaliada. Os sistemas obtidos foram caracterizados por inflamabilidade, propriedades mecânicas e reológicas, difração de raios X e microscopia eletrônica de transmissão. Os resultados de difração de raios X e microscopia eletrônica de transmissão indicaram a obtenção de nanocompósitos com estruturas parcialmente esfoliadas e/ou intercaladas que conduziram ao aumento do módulo de elasticidade e do valor do torque. O teste de inflamabilidade mostrou que a adição da argila na matriz polimérica e a presença do PE-g-MA retardaram a velocidade de queima do sistema, ou seja, diminuíram a inflamabilidade do PE puro. Em geral, o sistema contendo o agente compatibilizante (PE-g-MA) exibiu melhorias na estabilidade térmica e nanocompósitos parcialmente esfoliados foram formados, quando comparados à matriz de polietileno de alta densidade. O polietileno graftizado com anidrido maléico não apenas promoveu a esfoliação da argila, mas também facilitou a adesão carga-matriz, obtendo-se com isso melhorias nos resultados mecânicos do sistema.

High density polyethylene/national bentonite clay nanocomposites were prepared with the melt intercalation technique. The effect of the clay without treatment and clay treated with quaternary ammonium salt Cetremide with polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride as coupling agent was evaluated. The systems were characterized by flammability, mechanical and rheological properties, X ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. In general, the results of X ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy showed partially exfoliated and/or intercalated structures with higher tensile modulus and torque value. The flammability test showed that the addition of clay in the polymer matrix and PE-g-MA reduced the burning rate, indicating an improved flammability resistance of the nanocomposites. In general, the system containing PE-g-MA coupling agent led to partially exfoliated nanocomposites with higher thermal stability than the high density polyethylene matrix. The polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride promoted the exfoliation of clay and adhesion between matrix and filler, thus resulting in enhanced mechanical properties.

Nanocompósitos de poliamida 6/argila organofílica foram preparados pelo método de intercalação por fusão. A argila foi tratada com o sal quaternário de amônio (Genamin) visando-se a obtenção da argila organofílica (OMMT). Ela foi caracterizada por fluorescência de raio X (FRX) e difração de raio X (DRX) e, os resultados dessas análises mostraram a incorporação do sal entre as camadas da argila, tornando-a organofílica. Os nanocompósitos foram obtidos em extrusora de rosca dupla contra-rotacional, com 3% em peso de argila e, foram caracterizados por difração de raio X (DRX), microscopia eletrônica de transmissão (MET), caracterização mecânica sob tração, análise térmica dinâmico-mecânica (DMTA) e temperatura de deflexão térmica (HDT). Os resultados de DRX e MET mostraram estrutura esfoliada e/ou parcialmente esfoliada. As propriedades mecânicas sob tração dos nanocompósitos foram superiores às da poliamida 6 e, a análise por DMTA e HDT mostrou que a incorporação da argila organofílica na matriz polimérica, aumentou a rigidez (módulo de armazenamento) e a HDT do sistema, confirmando o efeito reforçante da argila no polímero.

Polyamide 6/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared by the melt intercalation technique. The clay was treated with a quaternary ammonium salt (Genamin) to obtain the organoclay (OMMT), being characterized by X ray fluorescence (XRF) and X ray diffraction (XRD). The results confirmed the incorporation of the salt into the clay structure, i.e. the organophilization. The nanocomposites were obtained with a counter-rotational twin screw extruder with 3 wt.% of clay and characterized by XRD, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), tensile testing, dynamical-mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) and heat deflection temperature (HDT). The XRD and TEM results showed exfoliated and/or partially exfoliated structures. The tensile properties were superior to those of the pure polyamide 6.The analysis with DMTA and HDT also showed that the incorporation of the organoclay into the polymer matrix increased the rigidity (storage modulus) of the system, confirming the reinforcing effect of the clay on the polymer.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do compatibilizante PE-g-MA (5 e 10%) no comportamento reológico de nanocompósitos de poliamida6/polietileno/argila organofílica, onde a argila foi tratada com um sal quaternário de amônio (Cetremide). Em geral, observou-se que a presença do compatibilizante aumentou o torque da mistura de PA6/PE e que a presença da argila organofílica (2%) sem o compatibilizante não pareceu alterar o comportamento do torque da mistura. Por outro lado, para o nanocompósito com 10% em peso de compatibilizante e com a argila organofílica, verificou-se um aumento significativo do torque em relação às outras misturas, evidenciando maior interação da argila organofílica com as matrizes poliméricas, isto é, maior viscosidade do sistema, promovida provavelmente pela presença do compatibilizante. Os resultados de difração de raio X mostraram que os sistemas apresentaram estrutura intercalada e/ou esfoliada.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of PE-g-MA (5 and 10 wt.%) compatibilizer on the rheological behavior of polyamide6/polyethylene/organoclay nanocomposites. The organoclay was treated with a quaternary ammonium salt (Cetremide). In general, it was observed that the presence of compatibilizer increased the torque of PA6/PE blend and that the presence of organoclay (2 wt.%) did not appear to affect the torque behavior of the blend without compatibilizer. On the other hand, for the nanocomposite with 10 wt.% of compatibilizer and with the organoclay, a significant increase in torque was observed in comparison with other mixtures, thus pointing to strong interaction between the caly and the polymer matrices, i.e. a larger viscosity of the system, probably due to the presence of compatibilizer. The results from X ray diffraction showed that the systems presented intercalated and/or exfoliated structure.

Os nanocompósitos de polipropileno/ bentonita e polipropileno/compatibilizante/bentonita foram preparados empregando uma extrusora dupla rosca acoplada a um Reômetro de Torque Haake. A argila bentonita natural proveniente do Município de Boa Vista - PB passou por um processo de purificação para em seguida ser aditivada com carbonato de sódio e posteriormente tratadas com o sal quaternário de amônia, visando a obter argila organofílica. As argilas foram caracterizadas por granulometria por difração de laser, análise química, espectroscopia de infravermelho e DR-X. Os resultados de granulometria e análise química mostraram que o processo de purificação foi eficiente em retirar as frações mais grosseiras mantendo as frações finas bem como na eliminação de minerais acessórios. Os resultados de FTIR e DR-X mostraram que o sal quaternário de amônio foi incorporado à argila confirmando a organofilização. Posteriormente a argila bentonita organofílica foi incorporada ao polipropileno (PP) e PP/compatibilizante (PP-g-AA e PP-g-MA são polipropilenos enxertados com ácido acrílico e anidrido maleico, respectivamente). A formação dos nanocompósitos bem como as propriedades das misturas PP/ORG (ORG - argila organofílica) e PP/compatibilizante/ORG foram verificadas por DR-X, MET e propriedades mecânicas. As análises de DR-X, MET mostraram que pode ter ocorrido a formação de nanocompósitos intercalado devido aos deslocamentos dos picos para ângulos de 2q inferiores. Os resultados das propriedades mecânicas mostraram que houve uma melhoria em algumas propriedades mecânicas.

In this work, polypropylene/bentonite and polypropylene/compatibilizer/bentonite nanocomposites were prepared by the melt intercalation method, using a counter-rotating intermeshing twin-screw extruder attached to a Haake System 90 Rheometer. Initially the natural bentonite clay, from Boa Vista - PB, was subjected to a purification process and then treated with sodium carbonate. Further, it was treated with ammonium quaternary salt to obtain an organoclay. The clays were characterized, according to granulometric, by laser diffraction, chemical analysis, infrared spectroscopy - FTIR, and X ray diffraction - XRD. The granulometric and chemical analysis results showed that the purification process was effective for removing the coarse fractions and eliminating some accessory minerals. FTIR and XRD results showed that the ammonium quaternary salt was incorporated to the clay, confirming the organophilization. In the subsequent stage of this work, the bentonite organoclay was incorporated to both polypropylene (PP) and PP/compatibilizer (PPgAA and PPgMA are polypropylenes grafting acrylic acid and maleic anhydride, respectively). The formation of nanocomposites as well as the properties of PP/ORG (ORG - organoclay) and PP/compatibilizer/ORG mixtures were analyzed by XRD, MET and mechanical properties. XRD and MET results showed that the formation of interlayer/flocculated nanocomposites has occurred for PP/compatibilizer/ORG systems. The mechanical properties results showed that some mechanical properties (final elongation and toughness) have been considerably improved.
